The List 2010

The List Guide

I keep a list of every film I watch during the year. “[ ]” means it was viewed in the theater, and new (midway) this year, “__” means it’s a non-current Television series I completed. For more on how I choose my top/worst films of the year, I refer you to past lists.

How many of these have you seen? How many did we watch together?

**A word about my 11 in-theater viewings and 15 year-total viewings of The Young Victoria. In 1994, I inadvertently saw Forrest Gump 4 times in the theater. I spent the next decade trying to replace that 4-time record with a film of which I could be more proud. In winter 2005-2006, I saw Walk The Line 5 times in the theater, and figured I could rest satisfied. But when I saw The Young Victoria for the first time in early February of 2010, my companion and I were so awestruck by it’s utterly surprising delights, honesty and nuance, that we ended up seeing it 4 days in a row. From there it was a pretty easy goal to break the Walk the Line record. However, after my sixth viewing, I had come to love the large-screen experience of the film so much, I decided I would take as many people to see it as possible, and see it as much as I could. For though I would unquestionably be purchasing it for myself on DVD, (as I did in April) nothing would compare to the delight of seeing it again (and again and again) on the big screen. So I saw it 11 times in the theater, (including twice in one day). Also, it shouldn’t go unsaid that I was also harboring a not-too-secret desire to bring the film as much box office as I could since for some reason, it never got a wide release. (My word-of-mouth/Facebook/Twitter campaign brought it over $450 via new & repeat viewers). I loved the hell out of that little film. Still do.

This is amazing. Sometimes I feel guilty for how many movies/tv series I watch, but this made me realize… I just love them! And that’s okay. 🙂

Also, I love that you watch movies multiple times. I’ve recently discovered that repeat viewings of movies is apparently not as common as I thought. I LOVE watching movies multiple times over! Now I know I’m not alone.
